Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 takes place from 11–17 May, with this year’s focus on “Action.” The campaign encourages people to take meaningful steps to support their own mental well-being and help others around them. Whether it’s reaching out to a friend, taking time to rest, asking for support, or creating healthier habits, the message is that small actions can make a big difference.
Mental health affects everyone, and raising awareness helps reduce stigma and encourages more open conversations. Looking after our mental well-being is just as important as caring for our physical health.
Helpful ways to support mental well-being include:
- Staying connected with family and friends
- Getting regular exercise and fresh air
- Eating a balanced diet and staying hydrated
- Taking breaks and getting enough sleep
- Practising mindfulness or relaxation techniques
- Limiting stress where possible
- Talking openly about feelings and asking for help when needed
- Making time for hobbies and activities you enjoy
Complementary therapies can also help support mental well-being alongside conventional healthcare. Treatments such as massage therapy, reflexology, aromatherapy, mindfulness, and acupuncture may help reduce stress, encourage relaxation, improve sleep, and promote emotional balance. While complementary therapies are not a replacement for professional mental health treatment, many people find them beneficial in supporting overall wellbeing and helping to manage everyday stress.
