Aromatherapy is suitable for all ages. It is most often combined in a soothing massage however it is highly adaptable and can be used in ‘aromapharmacy’ direct applications such as skin products and inhalations, making it easily accessible for those who are time poor, or unsuitable for massage, and wish to use aromatherapy as a homely remedy.
All of the treatments offered use high quality, pure essential oils selected on an individual basis. Essential oils, extracted from plants, possess distinctive chemical compounds and properties, which may be used to improve physical, emotional and spiritual health imbuing the user with a sense of relaxation and calmness. Some compounds have been shown to have a beneficial impact on the bodies tissues, facilitating healing, reducing pain and inflammation, and improving function.
In a typical aromatherapy session, you will be asked questions about medical history, general health, wellbeing and lifestyle so that the safest and most appropriate blend of essential oils can be chosen. Usually a selection of 3 or 4 oils will be blended together from a selection of over 60 so the resulting treatment will be very individual to you, and your needs. Oils are selected based on the compounds they contain and the mixture carefully balanced to prevent side effects and irritation. An example would be oils rich in Esters to ease pain and inflammation, but combined with oils rich in terpenes to relieve congestion. In combination these compounds will ease congested tight muscle. This blend is then correctly diluted to a safe concentration with non volatile oils before being applied in a soothing body massage.
Essential oils may be used in many different ways including, inhalations, baths and soaks, compresses and skin applications. You may be offered home blends to use in between your massage sessions.
Aromatherapy may be helpful for clients wanting to reduce everyday stress and so help with the ability to cope, relax and sleep. Some physical symptoms may be relieved through the combination of essential oils and massage such as pain, muscular tension and restrictions. Direct treatment such as inhalation can help with a rapid relaxation response for those with anxiety or sleep problems, and compresses to ease pain and inflammation, whilst skin preparations can be created for cosmetic purposes and mild skin conditions.
