Shiatsu is a traditional hands-on holistic Japanese body therapy which is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Shiatsu means ‘finger-pressure’ and treatment includes various techniques of stretches, joint mobilisation and pressure applied to specific points on the body that stimulate the meridians (energy channels) of the body.
Shiatsu influences and balances the body’s ‘Qi’ (vital energy) and the Shiatsu practitioner will work along the meridians feeling for excesses and deficiencies of energy.
Shiatsu treatment is usually performed on a futon on the floor. As Shiatsu works through clothes, we suggest you wear comfortable and loose clothing, preferably trousers and something to keep you warm. During your first Shiatsu appointment, an assessment will be made in order to tailor the treatment to your needs.
What conditions can Shiatsu help with?
Shiatsu can help with a wide range of conditions, from specific injuries to more general symptoms of poor health. Shiatsu is deeply relaxing and can help with specific problems such as back pain, insomnia, migraine, muscular aches and pains, sports injuries, digestive problems, menstrual problems and depression.
Regular treatments can help alleviate stress and maintain health and well-being.
We recommend that you seek Shiatsu treatment from a practitioner who is a member of the Shiatsu Society, the UK’s leading professional Shiatsu organisation.
