Body Massage is the systematic manual application of pressure and movement to the soft tissue of the body – the skin, tendons, ligaments and fascia (the membrane surrounding muscles and muscle groups). It encourages healing by promoting the flow of blood and assisting with lymph drainage relieving tension, stimulating nerves, and stretching and loosening muscles and connective tissue to keep them elastic.
Massage is used to heal torn or strained muscle fibres. In the case of injury, massage can help eliminate scar tissue that has formed on the muscle fibres. This scar tissue can restrict proper movement of the muscle and prevent proper blood flow to the area. By using deeper massage techniques with hands and forearms and creating friction over an area of injury it can promote the healing and elimination of tissue scarring.
Aromatherapy massage is the alternative therapeutic technique, which combines the natural therapeutic properties of the essentials oils and the healing power of massage therapy. It originates from the ancient Egyptians, Romans and Greeks who were amongst the first to appreciate the benefits of essentials oils. Scientific studies in the 1920’s confirmed that essential oils may be absorbed by the skin and reach organs through the circulatory system. It is a deeply relaxing treatment and aims to treat the whole person by helping to restore the harmony of mind, body and spirit.
The benefits of the treatment can include:
• Relief from stress, anxiety and tension
• Feelings of deep relaxation
• Improved mood
• Improved sleep
• A general sense of health and well-being
All massage treatments begin with a consultation where you will be asked health-related questions to make sure the use of aromatherapy oils are suitable. In some instances your doctor’s permission may be required before commencing treatment. A confidential record card will be kept with any relevant notes for future reference.
